120 Indian Star Tortoises ((Geochelone elegans) rescued from the illegal pet trade were released into the wild in areas of Maharashtra where their natural distribution in present. The tortoises were released following a meticulous state-wide collection plan, quarantine and rehabilitation via the set-up of a Reptile Transit Unit which is a joint initiative of the Maharashtra Forest Department and RESQ Charitable Trust (Wildlife), Pune.
