Dear Reader
Have you ever seen one of those adoption commercials that depict stray and abandoned dogs sitting in cages and looking around with a sense of hopelessness? If you have then you have experienced how strong an emotion they stir within you to adopt a shelter/rescue dog instead of buying one. However, in this blog, we will give you X solid, logical reasons for adopting a stray/ rescued dog so read on!

Reason 1: Stray/Rescued Dogs will cost you less to adopt
Most NGOs and animal welfare organization do not run adoption programmes with the aim of making profits. Thus they let you adopt from them at a very nominal cost. This cost, when compared to the cost of buying a pure breed from an animal breeder who just wants to make more money, will seem even more negligible.
Reason 2: Stray/Rescued Dogs would have already gotten their vaccinations and neutering done
Most shelter animals are neutered and receive necessary vaccinations upon arrival and thus you will adopt a dog that has all necessary processes and paperwork with significantly lesser complications.
Reason 3: Stray/Rescued Dogs have a better immune system
Though most stray/rescued dogs may not resemble any specific breed of dog, they are usually a mix of two or more breeds. This gives them a unique advantage in terms of enhanced immunity! Higher immunity results in a lower chance of sickness and this, in turn, means that you will have reduced medical expenses if you choose to adopt instead of going for a pure breed (many of whom have several health complications
Reason 4: Stray/Rescued Dogs are already people and house trained.
If you are a cleanliness freak then a rescued/shelter animal is your best bet. Most of them have received some form of potty training and also understand common commands like sit or stay. They also have stable personalities and behaviour patterns already put in place so that you do not have to train them from scratch.
Reason 5: You save a life and help reduce the burden of overpopulation.
Most animal shelters have a short window of time in which they try and get rescued animals adopted. Failing to get a dog adopted either results in the dog being put down due to lack of resources or the fact that another dog, who might have a better chance at adoption, remains unsheltered... If you adopt a shelter dog, not only do you grant him a better life but you also empower the shelter to take in another dog who needs their attention!
Adoption also reduces the risk of overpopulation. Buying from breeders only provides them with an incentive to breed more and more dogs at their puppy mills.
Reason 6: You will raise awareness about the adoption of animals and how well it works out!
We assume that you are the perfect parent for a shelter animal before letting you adopt one. Your happy story will be an example for others who are seeking to bring a four-legged family member home and they too will choose to adopt instead of buying a pup. Thus we are counting on you to become a change agent who not only saves one life but also acts as a role model to encourage other people to save more shelter/rescued dogs!
