Your contributions help us rescue, treat ad rehabilitate snakes in and around Pune who often get caught in difficult situations like drain pipe covers, fishing nets, and tar. They also face persecution from people, get attacked by free-ranging dogs and run over by vehicles.
Snakes inspire fascination and very often instil fear in us. You may feel threatened by a snake, but the fact is that today, they face several threats too: habitat loss, urban development, climate change, disease and most definitely, persecution and antagonism from humans!
Snakes are admitted to the RESQ Wildlife TTC with critical injuries, dehydration, stuck in tar or fishing nets that often result in deep wounds on their bodies. In other scenarios like seizures conducted by the Forest Department, several snakes that are trafficked are often admitted at RESQ Wildlife TTC for rehabilitation.
The RESQ team also attends to various snake rescue calls in the city where intervention is crucial for the safety of the snakes as well as the people around them.
However as predator and prey, snakes have an important role to play in maintaining the ecological balance and while they are globally feared, they are also revered and celebrated in many cultures as good fortune!
At RESQ Charitable Trust we pay them their due respect by saving as many as we can!
On an average, it costs us Rs.1,000 for the rescue, medical care, rehabilitation and release of 3 snakes in a month.
