Your contributions help us rescue and rehabilitate civets in Pune and overall in Maharastra that get admitted to RESQ Wildlife TTC due to various human-inflicted scenarios like unregulated tree felling, dehydration, attacks by free-ranging dogs and being orphaned as the parents succumb to road accidents.
Civets, cat-sized nocturnal animals that feed on a variety of food sources. They feed on fruits of various trees and play a key role in seed dispersal, and readily consume small insects, reptiles and frogs keeping their population in check.
They are omnipresent and have readily adapted to seek refuge around humans due to rapid urbanisation. However, this results in them falling prey to attacks from free-ranging dogs, and unregulated tree-felling incidents where several pups are orphaned.
Such animals are admitted to RESQ Wildlife TTC. Orphans need tender care and appropriate nutrition to survive the first few weeks until they start self-feeding. An integral part of their rehabilitation revolves around cutting them off human contact and encouraging them to forage which eventually helps them fit surviving on their own.
It costs us an average of Rs. 2,000 per month which includes their special nutrition feeds, veterinary care and rehabilitation supplies and care items until release.
