What is one of the worst things you’ve heard at your workplace? Now, as an NGO, we hear some pretty terrible things almost every day (along with the good stuff). Nothing could have topped the time when a family came to give away their Mastiff, Sally, and then had the GALL to ask if it could work as an EXCHANGE program; if they could take home a younger, healthier dog from RESQ.
Can you imagine the absolute wretchedness of being in Sally's place? A 9 year old dog, repeatedly bred, then developing a humongous, painful TVT, as well as cherry eye in both her eyelids; being wilfully cast away because she was of no use to her owners.
Seeing Sally in person and hearing her story would break just about anyone's heart; because she spent almost a week at RESQ completely apathetic to her surroundings and would lie in her kennel dejectedly. One look at her is enough to see the depth of her love for the family that saw her as nothing more than a commodity.
Slowly, she has found a way out of her shell. Sally is nothing but a puppy in a senior dog's body with endless, unbridled energy. Unmindful of her size, she demands cuddles all of the time. When she has completely healed from her medical conditions, we would like nothing more than for her to be adopted by a family that will give her the love that she deserves in her sunset years.
