Pixie was reported to us with a fractured front leg and a wound so severe that his entire paw pad had been ripped off. It was clear that he had just survived a hit-and-run accident... but that isn't where his suffering ended. Although his reflexes were normal, we noticed that Pixie was sitting at a very odd angle. X-rays revealed that he had sustained a diaphragmatic hernia. This means that Pixie had suffered such SEVERE trauma that his liver, kidneys, and intestines had been pushed right up to his chest! Surgery for such critical internal trauma cases have very low success rates, but we knew we had to do everything we could to help this poor pup... thankfully, Pixie was equally determined, and we are so happy to say that Pixie's surgery was a success! But his journey has only just begun: Pixie is going to need intensive care for the next 4-5 months, and the next few weeks are critical for him.
