Two days ago, a dog was rushed into the RESQ centre by our ambulance. Her chest cavity had been compromised and lungs were open and exposed – she was struggling to even breathe. Mere seconds after arriving at RESQ, she was taken into the Operating Theater and our vets Dr. Chetan Vanjari and Dr. Sushrut Shirbhate spent over three hours trying to close her up without her losing her life. It took a team of two vets and four assistants to do this procedure as the natural negative pressure of the chest cavity had to be imitated and maintained throughout the duration of the surgery. The team's efforts were greatly rewarded as the dog raised her head and took a breath with no distress just a few minutes after the last suture was taken. We have named this brave girl CENA.
Cena is now in recovery at the RESQ Centre. Her breathing is no longer labored but she is very weak. She needs constant monitoring as she is still not out of danger. We need YOUR support to continue ensuring that Cena makes a full recovery.
