Imagine our shock when we heard that someone wanted to get rid of their Beagle. The video reported to us showed a mangy looking puppy with overgrown nails and just about a passing resemblance to the breed; she was that ill-kept. And when the animal in question finally came to the RESQ Centre, her appearance presented more and more questions.
For one, Bonsai, as we decided to call her, was definitely no puppy. Her teeth and teats belied that she was definitely a full grown adult, and perhaps used for breeding purpose too. We were still reeling with the shock of that initial observation when we realized some behavioral anomalies too. Every time Bonsai is placed on a table, she presents herself as if for show.
Her appearance and behaviour speak volumes of the past she's come from. They speak of the depravity that humans can stoop to. That someone would see her for no more than the money she could bring them. That her health and welfare mattered nothing in the grand scheme of things.
But all that ends today. Today onwards, Bonsai will know what it feels like to be loved without expectations. Today onwards, she will be meticulously well cared for. She will be given the best of food, not so that she can give something back in return, but because she has a right to good health and well being. We here at RESQ will ensure that Bonsai un-learns all the horrible conditioning of the past and learns how to be a true doggie dog.
