It breaks our heart when we see animals abandoned on the road, left outside to fend for themselves when the only life they’ve known is one inside a home.
This afternoon, we found a Pomeranian near the Khadakwasla Dam backwaters who had been abandoned, presumably because of old age. He had turmeric smeared on his face when we found him, so we’ve called him Yellow!
Yellow is very old and also has a lot of joint problems, due to which he has trouble walking. He will be getting physiotherapy to help with the pain and make it easier for him to walk. We don’t know how long he has been out on the streets for, but he was infested with ticks when he came to the ResQ Centre. He is also going to need supplements and medicated baths for his skin.
He is an absolute dear, super loving and just wants to make new friends. For someone who was abandoned, he is surprisingly trusting of humans.
Yellow has been shaved, cleaned and eaten a good meal this evening. We’re giving him medical care and lots of love, trying to erase the physical and emotional wounds from his past trauma. He is in a safe place now, where he will be well looked after until a family decides to take him home. He will be part of our Halfway Home at ResQ until then.
