A mid-size was brought to our attention by a concerned reporter in Lonavala. This poor cow had been hit by a vehicle, and had injured her leg badly as a result. When the RESQ Lonavala team saw how serious her injury was, they rushed her to our Centre in Pune, where she was to be operated on immediately. Her bone was jutting out, and was beyond saving. We would have to amputate it.
Fortunatelyfor us, Mary Kom is a fighter. She has been given the name of the renowned Indian flyweight due to the padded bandage she needed post-op, which resembled a boxing glove.
Not only did she survive a horrific road accident, but she was standing on 3 legs a mere four days after surgery! This brave, beautiful girl is currently recovering at our Large Animals unit, where she grazes, takes long and well-deserved naps, and basks in the knowledge that she is in safe hands.
Now all that's left is for Mary Kom to walk on all fours again. While she does her utmost to walk on the 3 limbs she has left, every step is painful and unnatural for an animal so large. Her remaining front leg cannot sustain her weight for very long, and will soon become susceptible to other injuries. Worse still, if this imbalance affects her posture in the long run, her digestion will suffer, which will in turn lead to several more problems -- all of which may not be curable.
Pleasehelp sponsor a prosthetic leg for brave Mary Kom and ensure she has a bright, pain-free future ahead of her.
