Meet Lalu: a sweet, middle-aged community dog who met a cruel fate for no fault of his own. A group of children in the neighbourhood had tied a rubber band around Lalu’s tail, leaving him in horrible agony for several days before he was finally reported to us on our webline. When we reached Lalu, he was disoriented, running a high fever, and had a partially necrosed tail.
The most heartbreaking part? When Lalu saw our ResQ team, this friendly boy got so excited that he kept wagging his tail – which ended up causing him so much pain that he was howling, but still wagging through it all! But such is the incredibly forgiving, innocent nature of animals.
The rubber band had been so tightly wound around Lalu’s tail that his bone is exposed from the bottom, and we have no choice but to amputate the tail. We are currently waiting for his condition to stabilize before we attempt surgery.
