NEGLECT is a form of cruelty. This poor old dog, 14 years old, came to us a few weeks back with his owner and was advised to follow up treatment with a private vet. He return today in THIS CONDITION! The owner casually said he was out of town and he left dog with his brother who chose not to look after it.
The minor ear infection was maggoted deeply and completely septic! Not only this he casually added how the dog hadn't eaten in days and was struggling to walk!
We immediately started treatment because we couldn’t bear to see him in this state. The owner was so casual and ignorant about his condition even when explained, that our Centre Director @fiyana elavia got upset with him and told him to relinquish (give up) the dog to us, since he evidently didn’t care enough nor was fit to keep him. Without much thought, in a few minutes, he signed the paper and happily got RID of the dog.
We have cleaned his wound, given him a drip and bathed him. It seemed to be his FIRST bath in many years.
14 years this boy spent with a man who doesn’t even care that his neck was eaten up by maggots. His hips are terrible and he can barely walk without being in pain. Every animal deserves to feel cared for. He’s already 14 and doesn’t have too much time left ahead of him. We want to ensure he is looked after, feels cared for, treated with the best and when he leaves, knows that HE WAS LOVED.
Benji, as we are now calling him, will be at RESQ till he recovers. Once is he well, we will look for a loving family, but till then, he will be in our Halfway Home. He may have had the most careless owner before this..but for every supporter Benji gains today, he is building a bigger and truer family than his past has shown him.
We NEED your support to continue pulling animals out of their misery. Every day and month you sponsor Benji will help continue the work we do.
