Kiki, who is just about a few weeks old, came to us when she couldn’t walk using both her hind feet. The first thing we feared was if the accident that did this to her, had cost her her spine. She had sensation on both the hind legs but just could not use them.
We called our visiting doctor, Dr. Prashant, and he advised us to get an x-ray done. The x-ray revealed that it was a pelvic girdle fracture. We were all relieved as we’ve had such cases before and we knew that the kitty was going to be just fine…
And so it is… now Kiki is doing perfectly fine, she has started walking a little bit using her hind feet and is one of the most adorable kittens I’ve ever met!
She also needs a home now, so interested parties, please contact Swetha on +91 98604 08666, as she’s the one who’s been taking care and fostering the kitten right now.

Sterilisation Camp at Staveley Road
Saturday, May 28th, 2011One of the major tasks at The Staveley Road Re-Homing Project was for us to make sure all dogs were sterilised before they were given for adoption. This was being done by taking the individual dogs to be neutered.
We soon realised that this would be a very long process with 60 – 80 dogs needing surgery.
Thats when we requested the help of Sarvodaya Sevabhavi Sanstha (from Bangalore) to come in with their team of professionals to neuter the dogs.
On the weekend of 7th and 8th May, 2011, they came in with a team of 8 people, 4 veterinary surgeons and 4 trained staff. In 2 days 69 surgeries were successfully performed with no complications and no follow up treatment being required.
- Handling the dogs through nets is much safer for the animal and people
- Weighing the Dogs
- Injecting the dogs
- Sedated dog being removed from net
- Preparation for surgery
- Shaving the dog
- Surgery in process
Raja’s Cancer Case!
Thursday, May 26th, 2011Raja is an extremely sweet dog, the caller for Raja always saw him as an obedient and a gentle creature. But there was a time when Raja would not come out from a certain spot for a long period of time, and that is when the caller realised that something was wrong with Raja. He noticed that Raja was bleeding from his penis.
That is when the caller called us and we managed to get Raja to our office and got him checked by our visiting doc, Dr. Prashant. He was quick to identify the problem and just within a month, Raja’s cancer on the penis was gone!
Now Raja is back to being the most gentle dog on Range Hills Road, Khadki!

The Staveley Road Re-Homing Project
Monday, April 25th, 2011On 26 March 2011, Dr. Zareen Patel passed away leaving behind 135 dogs, most of them stray, some pure-bred at her ancestral home on Stavley Rd, in Camp, Pune. Dr. Patel had assigned 4 care-takers to look after the animals. However her untimely death left no more funds to look after the animals.
ResQ Charitable Trust has been entrusted with the task of looking after and re-homing the animals.
Currently ResQ is faced with 4 urgent challenges:
1. Taking care of the dogs and their living spaces: we need donations in the form of food, funds, medicines and supplies to help us look after the dogs
2. Sterilizing 80-90 dogs: out of 135 about 80-90 dogs need to be sterilized so to stop further breeding and costs about Rs. 1000/- per dog.
3. Finding volunteers with a veterinary or medical background: since some of the dogs are old, sick or hurt; they need constant medical care. ResQ is looking for volunteers with veterinary or medical backgrounds. We’d like people to come in for at least 2 hours every day for a minimum of a month at a time.
4. Finding permanent homes for the dogs: we need you, your friends and family to come forward and give some of these beautiful animals a place in your homes and lives. Please spread the word.

A lot of people have come forward to help ResQ by providing money, food, medicines and several other small things but significant things like sheets to protect the dogs from scorching temperatures or a refrigerator to keep food and water fresh.
Thank you for reading! We look forward to your support. Please spread the word far and wide.
Take a look at some of the pictures to know more.

Meet Lyka, Sia , Lily, Holly, a few of the loving dogs at Stavely Road. They are all waiting for their new adoptive families to visit.

ResQ volunteers give Caesar a bath The dogs must be bathed regularly to keep them clean, cool and healthy and to prevent transfer of any illness.

Katey and other ResQ volunteers put wet sheets on top of the cages Wet sheets are used to protect the dogs that are housed in cages. There are about 50 cages and we need to wet the sheets about 3 times a day! *Phew!*

RAD
Monday, February 28th, 2011Rad was found lying at the side of the road, the lady who called us said she had seen him there the day before and two hours before we got there. He was just lying there and looked up to us when we called him and tried to touch him. He was really weak and the wound was full of maggots and just horrifying.
It was a Sunday and luckily we had some of our volunteers available too. Ranjan and Mitadru were there and we managed to get Rad into the car with not much trouble. Took him back to the kennel and cleaned him out. The wound was bigger than we imagined and we took out what must have been over a hundred maggots.
Rad’s wound is healing very well and he should be completely ok in another 2 weeks.
