Effervescent Bubble for Adoption!

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

This is one of the cutest and naughtiest kittens I’ve encountered. He doesn’t sit still for too long and just loves to keep amusing himself and the people around!
He recently had an accident on law college road, in Pune, which rendered one of his hind legs to be dragged. The current care taker rescued him and called us for help, we immediately directed her to our doctor at Kothrud, Dr. Vinay Gorhe, who promptly started the treatment! With the help of the medication prescribed by the doctor and the dedication of the caller, the kitten is now so fine, it almost feels like nothing ever happened to him! The picture here hardly captures the innocence and madness of the kitten and has been taken on, one of those rare occasions when he managed to stay still for a little while.
Please come forward to take this little bubble home and for that, contact Nandini Gokhale at +91 98231 40983!

Kaalu From Sus Road

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Rainy season, a season of maggot wounds and gastroentritis! The past 3 months, Resq dealt with a lot of such cases. One of the many maggot wound cases was the case of Kaalu from Sus road.
Kaalu was universally hated by all in the locality he stayed. It was only because, he had one of the bad cases of maggot wounds. The caller reported that people would throw stones at him because of the stench he left around him and just generally thought he was rabid.
We got to him and started treating his wound and after the wound was almost healed, he went missing for 5 days. But he returned, as though somewhere he knew that the caller would call us, when the caller realised, he’d got another maggoted wound in the same place!
We treated him back to recovery and upon request of the caller, also vaccinated him against rabies. Now Kaalu has made the caller’s home his home and guards it dearly.

Brownie’s Unintentional Sterilizing Surgery!

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Brownie, a very sweet and shy dog, was seen having some problem around his testicular area. The caller called us one day, but couldn’t explain the problem, so we decided to go and have a look ourselves. We saw him from far and couldn’t catch him the first time, because the second he saw unfamiliar faces, he ran away! So we decided to go and check him again the next day!
The next day, we managed to catch him and realized that he might’ve, while running through some wires, got a cut on his testicular sac. This made his testes hang out in the open. This wound had attracted maggots and developed into a bigger and a more damaging wound.
We got him to our office and called in the doctor. Dr. Prashant instantly knew what had to be done and we collectively, along with the caller, decided that we had to operate on the dog and remove his entire testes, since it was completely infested with maggots.

ResQ usually neuters dogs and cats that are admitted to the kennel and does not specifically focus on neutering. But this was a special case, and the treatment itself required the dog to be neutered.

Now Brownie is back to being the same shy but healthy dog. He moves around in Model Colony, near the Shimla Office Guest House.

A Week In The Life of ResQ

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

ResQ does many rescues per week, so we thought it would be nice to keep you updated on most of our major cases.
It’s rainy season, in ResQ terms, its the season for gastro and maggots! So most of the cases are maggot cases!
A place, Laman Tanda, in Pashan, has 3 dogs we’r treating.
Rani, had a really big wound on the top of her tail, on her back. The wound was filled with maggots! It has been 2 weeks since we’ve been treating her and now she’s finally getting around and looks all happy!

The other two dogs and Chantu and Sandy have very minor bite wounds.

Another place that has 3 other cases that are on going is in Khadki, near the ammunition factory.
Soni, a mother of 5, got a wound just under her tail, again filled completely with maggots. She is recovering just fine too.

The other case is of Kalee, a female dog who had a swelling under her jaw with a little wound on it, a little course of anti-biotics is doing wonders for her, swelling has gone down immensely in just two days!
The last one from that area is a lil puppy who is unnamed, he also has a little lump on his, but his treatment just started, awaiting positive results.

Sudhir Wagal, a crazy dog lover and a regular caller, called in for a dog who had had a puppy 4 months back but one of her nipples had developed a knot, we named her Jui. We’r currently treating her for that! In the same area, there is Rani, with a swollen ear for which is has been getting treatment.

Yesterday, we got a call for a dog who had a maggoted ear, the caller, Kiran, who invariably ends up finding one of the worst cases, but loves dogs endlessly, waited with the dog for us to reach the spot for one hr. When we got there, we realised it wasn’t going to be a case that was easy. The complete brain of the dog had been eaten by maggots and the ear was loosely attached to the head with the help of some skin. We gave the initial treatment that had to be given, and handed the case to someone else, as the dog was going to need continuous care, and we are a little tied as our kennel facility is under renovation :( Hope it would be all fine.

This was just a little gist of the many many more rescues we do all over the city! We will definitely try and keep you posted as often as possible!

Chutki Survived An Accident!

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

The other day we got a frantic call from a regular caller, it was for Chutki! We’ve been treating Chutki for quite some time for mange, Chutki is a very shy dog, she is also only comfortable with a few selected people!
I was very surprised when the caller told me she had an accident. Immediately rushed to the site, to find Chutki in a state of shock! She was bleeding a little from her nose and mouth, but didn’t seem to have any other external injury or bone breaks. I contacted the doctor and followed a line of treatment he suggested.
Now she’s back on her four, extremely healthy and happy! We still continue to treat her for mange!

Whats been happening to Dr. Zarine Patel’s Dogs ?

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

ResQ Charitable Trust has been working hard over the past months!

We discovered there were really 153 dogs on site, its difficult to count each dog, as they were mostly loose and several dogs like to hide. As we treated for mange, dewormed systematically and reorganised the spaces available, the true number emerged.

A kind businessman donated some fencing and some men to erect it and another lady gave us manpower to put up plastic covering for the enclosures. Now there are two new enclosures! This means there are finally separate spaces for the 5 different packs to relax and play in.

Monsoon has hit hard, volunteers got very wet during the first few showers, running to cover cages in plastic sheets to keep the dogs dry and constructing sort of tents for the loose packs. ResQ desperately needs blankets and gunny bags to keep everyone warm throughout the monsoon. A kind gentleman donated beds so the loose dogs now have dry places to sleep.

When ResQ arrived, two dogs were pregnant and 15 puppies were born. SARVODAYA SEVABHAVI SANSTHA, came in from Bangalore and a sterilisation camp was held on the 7th and 8th of May and we have got 69 dogs neutered in 2 days. Now all dogs are neutered, vaccinated and ready to go to their new homes.

50 lucky dogs have found new homes, but we still have over a hundred to go! Mostly adult Indian breeds, all loving and good natured, need a space. Space, for one or two dogs at a farm house, factory space or bungalow.

We had a small adoption camp at High Spirits at Koregaon Park, on the 19th June.  We plan to have something every week  to promote the lovely Indian Breeds that need spaces to live a free life!
