Adoption Campaign

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

RESQ runs an Adoption Campaign every weekend at E-Square Multiplex, University Road. We often get some of the pups who our volunteers are fostering there as well. If you are interested in volunteering for the campaign or actually adopting a pup…visit us there!

We also sell some of ResQ merchandise there…pens, badges, and diaries!

One animal homed, is one animal off the streets!

Found a Stray Pup/Kitten? Here’s what you CAN do.

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Have you found puppies near your house?

Have you found a puppy running in the middle of a busy street – just missed being hit by a vehicle?

Have you found a infant pup – abandoned by the mother, lying on the road?

YOU are faced with 2 questions:

1) WHAT CAN I DO?

2) IF I CALL UP RESQ CHARITABLE TRUST, WHAT CAN THEY DO?

WHAT CAN I DO?

1) If the puppy/puppies are in the middle of the road –> move them to the side of the road or on to the footpath. Sometimes, pups wander off in the middle of the street, find themselves in the middle of the chaos and cars, get frightened and react by just running helter-skelter. By you moving them on the side, they might just learn the biggest lesson of their life = ‘THE FOOT PATH IS SAFER’

2) Look around for the mother if it is a very small pup. Ask people around if a mother has littered close by. Don’t be very surprised if you dont find a mother – little pups can travel far once they start wandering. If you do find the mother – place the pup back near the mother.

3) If you do not find the pups mother, you have 3 options:

a) Take it home/ or to your building/ or ask someone to feed it and keep an eye on it for a few days –> Call US

(Read Section: IF I CALL UP RESQ CHARITABLE TRUST, WHAT CAN THEY DO?)

b) Take it to a shelter

OUR VIEW: Puppies less than 4 months of age should NOT be taken to a shelter, especially the common ones in Pune City, as the pups are young with no immunity. They catch infections more easily at a shelter, than they do on the roads, as there as many dogs in shelters carrying viruses and diseases. Chances are if they are on the streets, they may not encounter sick dogs and catch diseases. In our opinion, puppies have higher survival rates on the streets than in shelters (that do not have isolation wards for sick dogs)

c) Leave it on the side of the road, close to where you found it:

OUR VIEW: Dogs are survivors. Let nature take its call. There are higher chances of the puppy surviving if you leave it on the streets. Yes, there is always a risk of getting involved in an accident – but would you rather put it in a shelter where it will either die of some viral disease like canine distemper (air borne) or gastroenteritis OR would you give him a shot at life and a chance to learn life’s difficult lessons on the streets of city? Take your pick.

IF I CALL RESQ CHARITABLE TRUST, WHAT CAN THEY DO?

a) Please call our RESQ Helpline

b) You can send us pictures of the puppy (Email: resqct@gmail.com)

c) We will try our best to lookout for a good family/ farmhouse/ home for the pup however please understand that:

• all pups may or may not get adopted

• finding good homes is a difficult process – sometimes it can take 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months

• we have a adoption protocol wherein prospective families/ individuals are interviewed, made to sign an undertaking and surprise checks will be conducted on the pups/ dogs after adoption
